Go Geek for Fayetteville ComicCon

September 26, 2017

Fayetteville ComicCon (FCC) claims, "If it's geek, we got it," and this is the best description of what pop culture fans encounter at the annual event. As it's grown over its three years, FCC continues to attract big-name stars and and legends from the pop culture world. Whether you're a 4-year-old fan of Power Rangers or a 40-year-old fan of The Walking Dead, the con gives everyone permission to "go geek." Here are just a few reasons why we consider FCC to be a must-go event in Cumberland County, October 21st and 22nd.

  1. Industry Legends - One of the biggest reasons to attend FCC is the line-up of famous guests, of course. This year's list includes legends like Lou Ferrigno. Yes, that would be the Original Hulk. Returning to the con is Sam Jones, aka Flash Gordon ("The Savior of the Universe"). Remember Non from the first two Superman flicks? Get ready to meet Jack O'Halloran himself. Also, our own local celebrity of Naked and Afraid fame, E.J. "Skullcrusher" Snyder, will be making an appearance.
  2. Geek Life - The 55+ vendors setting up at this year's FCC makes for an impressive list, as well. From anime' figures to rare comic books to geek accessories, you will see it all. We have to give you two suggestions, though. Stop by Dragon's Lair Comic Book Store to discover a shop that has been serving our local geeks for 30+ years. Also visit Escape Room Fayetteville for some interactive escape games that will challenge even your brainiest friend.
  3. Cosplay Contests - You better start planning your costume now, as cash, gift certificates, trophies and more are on the line. Those 15 and under may compete in a special Junior-Level Competition, and anyone 16 and over may enter the Senior-Level Competition. Our little costume tip? Think outside the box and go for niche cosplay.
  4. Speed Dating - Yep, you read that right. Grab tickets to SCI-FI Speed Dating at the con and head to the ESPN Radio Upper Deck, the Crown Complex's onsite restaurant and bar, to speed-date your way to your geek-mate. Anything is possible at ComicCon!
  5. Tattooing - Thanks to New Addiction Tattoos, you can also get some fresh ink in a semi-private room at FCC. Bring your own design or choose from the onsite selection of geek designs.
  6. Performers - It doesn't get more unique than the array of FCC performers. Watch the live sword-play demonstrations by the Knightly Order of the Fiat Lux. Take in the stunning sight of Air Born Aerial Artists performing aerial acrobatics. Listen to the sounds of nerd harp music by harpist Damara. Marvel at the martial arts demonstrations by students of Rou Long Ma School. It all makes for an incredible sensory experience unlike anything else.
  7. Family Friendly - FCC strives to keep their con family friendly, with rules about appropriate costumes and weapons restrictions. The Kidz Zone also offers a designated area for the little ones, with face-painting, balloon animals, games and more. Accompanied by a paying adult, kids 10 and under are admitted free, making this cheap entertainment for the whole family.

For out-of-town visitors, FCC's Partner Hotel is offering a discounted nightly rate. Check out the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (FACVB) list of Accommodations for other hotel options. The FACVB also provides a handy Calendar of Events and a list of area Restaurants and Shopping. As we shared on the blog last week, another highly anticipated event that takes place here in October is the Indigo Moon Film Festival; learn our "Top 7 Reasons" to attend this festival on "Calling All Film Fanatics & Arts Lovers!".
