Fayetteville, N.C. – According to a nationally known site location consultant, Fayetteville/Cumberland County, North Carolina, is an extremely attractive area for pharmaceutical manufacturers, distribution centers and automotive related manufacturers. Recent reports compiled by Atlanta-based Business Facility Planning Consultants show that Fayetteville offers these business sectors the prime advantages of significantly lower operating costs and workforce productivity.
Three separate studies examined factors such as the cost of transportation, real estate and construction, as well as the cost and productivity of the labor force. Results included:
Pharmaceutical Sector
Pharmaceutical and biotechnology related manufacturers can operate in Cumberland County with 32% lower costs compared to the national average. As an example, for a typical 250,000 sq. ft. facility with 300 employees, this would translate to a savings of more than $8.9 million per year.
Distribution Centers
Fayetteville/Cumberland County offered the lowest operating costs among the 19 metro areas in (or partially in) North and South Carolina analyzed in the study. Savings ranged from $1 million a year compared to Florence, South Carolina, to $12 million a year compared to Norfolk, Virginia. Ranked against other major metro areas in North Carolina, a distribution center in Fayetteville would save $4.7 million a year compared to Charlotte and $5.5 million a year compared to Raleigh.
Automotive Related Sector
Automotive related manufacturers can operate in Cumberland County with 31% lower costs than the national average. On average, this would represent a savings of $5.7 million a year.
Fayetteville/Cumberland County, however, offers much more that cost savings. Other advantages make this area an ideal choice for industrial expansion or relocation. These benefits include: a range of available industrial sites, including a 125,000 sq. ft. shell building; outstanding infrastructure including water/wastewater utilities currently at 50% capacity; an unparalleled workforce including many who have honed their skills with America’s elite military forces; and an excellent quality of life, with year-round mild climate, in a community that has earned the National Civic League’s “All-America City” honors twice in the past nine years.
