Move over National Mall Fayetteville now has another place for runners to take a look at the scenery and forget about the pain in their knees. The Cape Fear River Trail, which follows four miles of wooded trails next to the Cape Fear River, is a beautiful place for residents to slow down and take a stroll.

The trail boasts over 700 species of plants and 150 birds in the area. It is a unique place to run, bike, roller blade or even just to enjoy some solitude and get away from the stress of everyday life. Signs are along the trail to educate users on the natural habitat.

The trail is part of the East Coast Greenway project and will eventually connect greenway trails from Maine to Florida.
