The Downtown Development Corporation (DDC) has announced that 7 new businesses have signed leases within the Self-Help building at 100 Hay Street bringing to 9 the number of new businesses that have relocated to downtown Fayetteville since September 1, 2004.

“This is an outstanding display of the transformation taking place in downtown,” said Marshall Isler, Executive Vice President of DDC. “Downtown benefited greatly when Self-Help made the investment to restore the building. We are extremely pleased with the recent rate of occupation.”

The 25,000 square foot, 10-story Self-Help building was originally built in 1925 for First National Bank of Fayetteville. In 2003 Self-Help invested nearly $3 million to renovate the building with new electrical, plumbing and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Self-Help took great care to protect the historic details of the building including the terrazzo floors, interior windows, and dramatic two-story lobby on the ground floor.

“It’s great to see these small businesses choosing to locate downtown,” said Fran Turchi Fried, Self-Help’s Director of Real Estate. “This is what we all hoped would happen when we bought the building back in 2001.”

New businesses leasing space in downtown include:

1. Divine Interventions- Nursing Agency
2. Vision Quest Financial Group
3. Murray and Associates- Management and Consulting Services
4. New Faces Modeling and Talent Agency
5. Mary Peppers Insurance Services
6. AGSI, LLC - Consulting Services
7. RLM Communications- Technology Communications
8. WHF, Inc.- Real Estate Developer (not located in Self- Help building)
9. Designs by Leah- Nail Salon (not located in Self- Help building)

“The potential for growth in downtown is still tremendous,” said Isler. “DDC is committed to revitalization and will continue to encourage businesses that downtown is the place to be.”

The Cumberland County Business Council is a community initiative that evolved from Greater Fayetteville Futures, a community wide planning process. The purpose of the CCBC is to coordinate the efforts of the Fayetteville Area Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Development Corporation of Fayetteville and the Fayetteville Area Economic Development Corporation.
