CUMBERLAND COUNTY RANKS 9TH STATEWIDE IN TRAVEL IMPACT

Fayetteville, North Carolina ? According to 2003 travel impact figures released by the NC Division of Tourism, Cumberland County moved to 9th among the state?s 100 counties in economic impact from domestic tourism. In 2002, the county ranked 10th.
In 2003, domestic tourism generated an economic impact of $299.39 million in Cumberland County, which is a 7.1% increase from 2002. Out of North Carolina?s 100 counties, Cumberland showed the third largest rate of increase in tourism expenditures, behind Currituck and Catawba counties.
More than 4,070 jobs, generating a payroll of $71.47 million are directly attributable to travel and tourism in Cumberland County. State and local tax revenues from travel to the county amounted to $23.75 million.
