FAYETTEVILLE, NC Infrastructure, people and an outstanding site make Fayetteville, North Carolina, one the Souths smart picks for automotive assembly, says Southern Business & Development magazine. In the Spring 2003 issue, the business publication rated twelve of the finest sites in the South that can accommodate an automotive original equipment manufacturer. Fayettevilles I-95 industrial site ranked fifth among this select group of development-friendly locations.
SB&D outlined several benefits of the Fayetteville site. The site itself is large (1,000 acres) and level. It offers access to all types of transportation including interstate highways, airports, shipping port and rail. And, its located in Cumberland County with a population of 300,000. Fayettevilles large, in-place utility capacity ranked high, as did the areas recruitment pool. In particular, the magazine cited the tremendous opportunity to tap into a capable, highly trained work force, which is enhanced by the thousands of active duty personnel who leave the military each year. Another asset was the sites proximity to the states second largest community college, Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC).
The same advantages that earned Fayetteville/Cumberland County its top ranking for automotive development also make the area extremely attractive for many other types of business and industry. Currently, the area is home to Kelly-Springfield, with the largest single-building tire plant in the world; Black & Decker, Purolater and DuPont plants, as well as many other manufacturing facilities; a variety of service and high tech companies and more.
The Fayetteville area also has active business development organizations including the Cumberland County Business Council (CCBC) and the Fayetteville Area Economic Development Corporation (FAEDC). Were committed to working with prospective business to make sure they get everything they need, says CCBC President Bill Martin. |
