Community ceremonies, family-friendly festivals and patriotic performances are all on the calendar in “America’s Hometown” this Veterans Day weekend. The three days offer locals and visitors an array of opportunities to honor our veterans and to find sources of entertainment. However you choose to celebrate this holiday, Fort Bragg and the communities of Cumberland County is the perfect place to appreciate the brave men and women who have served our country.

Community Ceremonies
Before jumping into the long weekend of festivities, attend one of three ceremonies taking place on Veterans Day around Cumberland County. Those who have served our country in every military branch will be honored in the Town of Spring Lake and the Town of Hope Mills. Remember Prisoners of War and Missing in Action and recognize their families at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum with the POW/MIA Ceremony & Flag Retirement Ceremony.

Family-Friendly Festivals
Take the family out to the Cape Fear Botanical Garden (CFBG) on Friday for their Veterans Day Festival at the Garden, with free admission for active-duty military and veterans. Already playing host to a traveling LEGO® exhibit, CFBG has also planned several LEGO®-themed activities. Add to the day’s festivities some craft beer, food trucks, a climbing wall and inflatables, and the whole family will be entertained. On Saturday, celebrate the holiday with a festival geared toward one of America’s favorite pastimes, barbecuing. When Pigs Fly: An All-American BBQ Festival returns to Festival Park for another year of friendly competition between pit-masters in this “All-American” city. Taste-testers enjoy the grilled results, as well as live music, kids activities and local brews.

Patriotic Performances
Grab tickets to the Vince Gill Concert at the Crown Theatre. The beloved country music star is sure to treat his audience to a top-notch show this Veterans Day. If theater is more your taste, then catch one of the last performances of Henry V at Cape Fear Regional Theatre over the weekend. Discounted tickets to Shakespeare’s famous history play are available for active-duty military and veterans, offering the perfect excuse to gather up that “Band of Brothers” for the show.
