Tips for the Ultimate Blues-n-Brews Experience

April 25, 2017

beer festival Fayetteville NCWe celebrate NC Beer Month in Cumberland County each April. However, we are always looking forward to the first Saturday in June, when Fayetteville’s biggest celebration of beer takes place. We are talking about the Blues-n-Brews Festival (BnB), a one-day event organized by Cape Fear Regional Theatre that kicks off our summer with a bluesy bang. This year will mark the 15th anniversary of the festival, and over 3,000 brews and blues fans are expected to pack Festival Park on June 3. For first-timers (and even veterans), we are offering a how-to guide for the ultimate BnB experience.

Stay Cool & Comfortable . . .

With the festival kicking off at 5:00 p.m., there are still a few hours of sunlight left in the day, and you will need that sunscreen and hat. We also suggest packing an umbrella, outdoor chairs or picnic blanket, and bug spray. When you first arrive at the park, set up your chairs in a prime spot for maximum blues enjoyment. Then grab your free sampling glasses and hit the tents.
Tip: Wear a backpack to easily transport your gear and the cool BnB souvenirs you will be buying.

Love Local . . .

Among the 100+ beers you will find on tap at the festival, a few microbreweries will be representing Cumberland County well. To get the full local experience, start your beer-sampling tour at Huske Hardware House and The Mash House Brewing Company, both based out of Fayetteville. Then look for Dirtbag Ales, an award-winning microbrewery from Hope Mills that is making a name for itself.
Tip: If you are a cigar lover, make sure you visit Anstead’s Tobacco Company’s tent (aka “cigar bar”) and treat yourself to a fine stogie.

The breweries are not the only ones showing off their mad skills at this event. Multiple food vendors keep the crowds fed well, and this year, an even bigger selection is promised. That list includes one of Fayetteville’s most sought-after food trucks, R Burger. For North Carolina barbecue fans, N.C. Ribs on Wheels is sure to be a big hit. Offering healthy-yet-tasty alternatives, Fayetteville’s Bowls on a Roll is a great option, as well.
Tip: Bring cash to make easy, fast transactions with the food vendors.

Go Big & Go VIP . . .

This pre-sale offer comes with multiple benefits—to include early admission, with a private concert by blues singer Tullie Brae. VIP attendees also will be given an opportunity to judge the Beer Tasting Contest and will be served a catered meal on the private lawn with covered seating. If that’s not enough of an enticement, VIP’s will be going home with some awesome BnB SWAG.
Tip: Purchase VIP tickets early online, as they sell out every year.

The BnB Festival is one of several reasons beer lovers fall in love with the greater Fayetteville area. In addition to the microbreweries shared above, we suggest you pay a visit to our new kid on the block, Bright Light Brewing Company; keep your eye out for Airborne Brew Company’s grand opening; and make a point to stop by World of Beer. Finally, many other festivals and events take place throughout the year in Cumberland County, and you can find all those details on the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Calendar of Events.
