End-of-Summer Countdown for the Family

family-friendly eventsJust a few weeks remain before a new school year is upon us, but that doesn’t mean families can’t fit in more quality time and make last-minute memories together on a weekend trip. To assist in your planning, we are giving suggestions on how to spend a full three days in the greater Fayetteville area. Just pick a weekend, choose from 12 family-friendly events, and get ready to play hard in our backyard.

Outdoor Recreation & Museum Exploration – August 18th – 20th

Friday – Head outdoors with the kids for an educational Interpretive Hike at J. Bayard Clark Park or a beginner’s Kayak Tour at Lake Rim Park.

Saturday – Celebrate the history of the U.S. Army’s airborne forces at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum’s National Airborne Day Celebration in the morning; then enjoy all the festivities going on that afternoon at Fascinate-U Children’s Museum’s Back to School Bash.

Sunday – Witness period reenactors, or Soldiers from the Old North State, bring Civil War history to life at the Averasboro Battlefield and Museum.

Play, Cheer, Run – August 25th – 27th

Friday – Explore everything downtown Fayetteville offers on Fourth Friday, when the streets come alive with musicians, artists, entertainers, and more.

family-friendly eventsSaturday – Cheer on the Rogue Rollergirls as they battle it out in an action-packed Fayetteville Roller Derby Home Game* at the Crown Arena, or head to the track to take in late-model, super-street, and more Racing at Fayetteville Motor Speedway.

Sunday – Bring the dog and the kids and hit the pavement for the 5K Fun Pup Run/Walk at Fleet Feet Sports Runners Spot with Naturally Unleashed and Fayetteville Animal Protection Society.

County Fair + ComicCon + Cruise-In – September 1st – 3rd

Friday – Enjoy free admission for the whole family on opening night of the Cumberland County Fair at the Crown Complex.

Saturday – Get your costume ready for the Cumberland County Headquarters Library’s Librari-Con—an all-day convention that celebrates anime, comic books, and other fandoms.

Sunday – Join folks at Paradise Acres for a Cruise-In to Paradise, where the hot rides come in all makes and models, the kids enjoy inflatables and outdoor fun, and the barbecue is spot on.
