America’s Hometown Happenings: March 24 – 26

Fayetteville is a three-time recipient of the All-America City Award, the nation’s oldest community recognition program, but this patriotic city has been dubbed “All American” for plenty of other reasons. We are home to the All American Marathon, All-American Adventure Trail, All American Freeway, and more.Hundreds of runners will be descending on Cumberland County this weekend for the marathon, and we are rolling out the red carpet with a number of adventurous, historical and entertaining events.

We Are All American Weekend, Downtown Fayetteville – Friday – Sunday,
March 24 – 26
Since downtown is playing host to the marathon, it is celebrating all weekend long with an array of special events. Kick off the festivities at An All-American 4th Friday. Then return for the All-American Fayetteville Challenge, All American History Tours, All American Marathon Expo, and more.

marathonMedal of Honor Day Ceremony, Airborne and Special Operations Museum (ASOM) – Saturday, March 25
Join the ASOM at an annual ceremony that honors a select number of Medal of Honor recipients. This year’s special guest speaker is North Carolina House District 45 Representative John Szoka. Following the ceremony, the museum is also hosting World War II Documentary Film Screening and Book Signings.

Heroes Among Us, Huff Concert Hall, Methodist University – Saturday, March 25
Enjoy this patriotic season closer by the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra with Guest Conductor Dina Gilbert. The concert is being dedicated to all military and civil servants, or the “heroes among us,” and will include classical and popular works on heroism.

All American Marathon, Festival Park – Sunday, March 26
Run your heart out with the best in the marathon, half-marathon, or 5K—or just come out to watch the action and cheer on the runners. The unique marathon route takes its competitors by some of Fayetteville’s famous landmarks and on to Fort Bragg, ending with a big finish celebration.
