Cape Fear Regional Theatre

As that special day dedicated to moms is just around the corner, we are helping our visitors plan the perfect Mother’s Day weekend in the greater Fayetteville area. There is something for lovers, friends, and family to all enjoy at our arts and entertainment venues, shops, and restaurants. This holiday weekend presents an ideal opportunity to explore everything Cumberland County has to offer.

Date Night – Friday, May 12th

Grab tickets for you and your sweetheart to see Cape Fear Regional Theatre’s (CFRT) last play of the season, opening Mother’s Day weekend. Caroline, or Change: A New Musical is a multi-Tony-nominated show that features musical styles ranging from Motown to Yiddish, and is sure to close out CFRT’s season with a bang.

Tip: After the show, join the late-night crowd for good eats and drinks at Latitude 35 Bar & Grill, the “Caribbean-style watering hole” located next to the theater.

Ladies’ Day Out – Saturday, May 13th

Downtown Alliance’s Carriage Rides

Kick off your girl time with a little shopping at City Market at the Museum. This downtown farmers/crafters’ market is located on the grounds of the Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum, and the market’s late-spring wares are abundant—everything from handcrafted jewelry to pints of strawberries to dried tea leaves.

After leaving the market, head over to the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County and stroll through their 3rd Annual Art and Flowers Exhibition. This visually stunning exhibit showcases original floral artworks paired with floral arrangements.

In the afternoon, take your girlfriends on a Mother’s Day Carriage Ride (reservations recommended). An elegantly decorated, horse-drawn carriage will be departing from the Downtown Alliance office every 20 minutes to explore the old streets of historic downtown Fayetteville.

Finally, end this perfect day at the Crown Theatre with the Mother’s Day Soul Jam concert. The Stylistics, a soul group, will be taking its audience back to top-ten hits from the early 1970’s—along with other performers, Heatwave and Harold Melvin’s Bluenotes.

Tip: Plan to also attend a special Mother’s Day brunch for moms and daughters at The Metropolitan Room.

Family Funday – Sunday, May 14th

Fort Bragg Fair

Wrap up the fun weekend by spending quality family time together at the Fort Bragg Fair, where moms will be given free admission for Mother’s Day (when accompanied by a child who is 36” or taller). This annual event, located on the Fort Bragg Fairgrounds, is a family favorite, and best of all, the admission price includes unlimited carnival rides and live entertainment.

Tip: Stick around the fairgrounds that evening for one of the free shows being performed by Carolina Soul Band.

The above-suggested events are just a few of the many special things being planned for Mother’s Day weekend all over Cumberland County. Be sure to visit the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau for more ideas on where to eat, play, and stay here.
