5 Myths About Fayetteville – Myth #5

July 13, 2018

In yesterday's blog, I busted the myth that there are no international cultural experiences in Cumberland County by showing all the ways to experience diverse traditions in the Fayetteville area. Today, I'm busting one last myth.  I'm correcting the false idea that there is nowhere to spend down time in Cumberland County.

Myth #5: Cumberland County Has No Hangout Hotspots

Between all the classes or business meetings or whatever you’re in the Fayetteville area for, it is vital to get yourself some rest. Cumberland County has plenty of places to hang out to fit any style. If you find the open air and outdoors relaxing, enjoy one of our many parks in the area. Lake Rim Parkin West Fayetteville, is the perfect spot to rest outdoors. They have a walking/hiking trail, playgrounds for the kids, athletic fields, and even a place to do some fishing.

My personal favorite way to spend down time is at one of the many local coffee shops in the area. Rude Awakening Coffee House downtown has some of the best coffee and features a small courtyard seating area that looks like it belongs in an indie music video. Wherever you are staying in Cumberland County, there is a coffee shop near you, so come in and order your favorite drink and take some time to breathe. Maybe the way you enjoy your coffee and downtime is at your favorite chain, so you can use those gift cards and loyalty accounts. The Fayetteville area has those, too. With multiple Starbucks locations, a Barnes & Nobles, and more, you can definitely find a familiar place to relax.

If you’re in the mood for shopping, make sure you visit the Cross Creek Mall. Stop by Lin’s Massage as you explore over 100 vendors. The food court has everything from major chains to great local places. The best burrito I’ve ever had is served over at Speedy Burritos. Cross Creek Mall is constantly growing and changing, so come back often to see what new stores are opening and new deals are being offered.

One growing scene in the Fayetteville area is niche hang-outs to spend time, like general stores or record shops. My favorite recent discovery is Leclair’s General Store, located in the Historic Haymount District. This place is an antique store, coffee shop, craft beer vendor, and one of the best places to spend time. Everything is well designed and open, and the friendly atmosphere makes it the perfect place to relax. The best part is that everything in the store is for sale. Whether you’re interested in books, records, furniture, or art, Leclair’s has something for sale. Come by for a snack and some antiquing and stay for the coffee and company. If you've found another unique place in town, let us know about it!

There is no reason to be bored in the Fayetteville area. From the baseball games to the international events to the hipster, hole-in-the wall places, the communities of Cumberland County have just about everything. It took me some time and a fresh look to realize, but we live in an area that is always changing and growing. Hopefully, I've been able to clear up some misconceptions you may have bought into. Come try some of these places and let the team here at Go Fayetteville and the Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau know what you think!
