December 21, 2017

Have you made your family’s New Year’s weekend plans, yet? It’s not just the adults who will be celebrating in Cumberland County’s communities. You can take the whole crew out to several attractions here for a variety of unique family-friendly entertainment and recreation. We’re ready to welcome 2018!

Leave Your Mark

Our Fayetteville Marksmen will be battling it out on ice with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs at the Crown Coliseum on Friday, December 29th. Plans for this New Year's-themed Marksmen Hockey Game include some extra crowd-pleasing entertainment, like a food-eating contest and a push-ups contest.

Learn the Kwanzaa Story

A longstanding tradition for Fayetteville this time of year, the Umoja Group’s Kwanzaa Celebration honors African heritage in African-American culture. Head out to Smith Recreation Center on Saturday, December 30th, for all the festivities: parade of African kings and queens, drum call, children’s candlelight ceremony and feast.

Let the Monkeys Play

The little ones will love celebrating their own Countdown to Noon! at Monkey Joe's on Sunday, December 31st. This indoor inflatable playground, located at Westwood Shopping Center, will be doing giveaways/raffles and offering free face-painting as part of the festivities.

Do Sunday Brunch

Lake Gaston Brewing Company & Restaurant, located in the heart of Downtown Fayetteville, is hosting an all-you-can-eat New Year's Eve Brunch on Sunday, December 31st. The family will be eating well on Chef Lou’s extensive brunch menu—featuring everyone’s favorite breakfast foods, plus fried chicken, ham, roast beef and much more.

Get Outdoors

FIT4MOM Fayetteville is hosting a Kid-Friendly Balloon Drop + New Year's Eve Celebration at J. Bayard Clark Park on Sunday, December 31st. Offering the perfect excuse to get the family outdoors, this party will include kids’ crafts, games, sparkling juice and more.

Hit the Lanes

Another New Year's Eve Family Party is taking place at B & B Bowling Lanes on Sunday, December 31st. Reserve your lane now for all the glow bowling, music, balloon drop and kid-friendly champagne in a fun party atmosphere.

Watch the Flea Drop

One of North Carolina’s most unique NYE countdowns takes place at Eastover Community Center with the Eastover New Year's Eve Flea Drop on Sunday, December 31st. Families may enjoy an alcohol-free celebration and watch a 3-foot-tall, 30-pound ceramic flea drop at midnight.

Make a New Resolution

We are starting the new year off right here with the annual First Day Hikes at Carvers Creek State Park on Monday, January 1st. Hikers may choose to join either a 2-mile Nature Hike through the Longleaf Pine ecosystem or a self-guided, 1-mile Story Walk, which combines the love of reading with the love of outdoors.

Of course, there are plenty of other events taking place all over Cumberland County through the end of the year; find more details about those on the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Calendar of Events. We also recently shared four outdoor destinations that are hosting dazzling light shows and holiday festivities; discover those attractions on “Our Magical Nature Escapes.”
