Fayetteville Motor Speedway

Cumberland County is a great destination for railfans, plane spotters, and gearheads, and the weather forecast could not be more perfect for our visitors this first weekend in April. Planes, trains and automobiles have been the focus on our blog this week. We are continuing that theme with our featured hometown happenings, and there is so much to see and do at a car meet, racetrack, cruise-in, and exhibits.

Join fellow gearheads Friday evening at I-95 Muscle, in the Town of Hope Mills, for 7 Fast Fridays. The event kicks off with a car meet, followed by an outdoor viewing of one of the The Fast and the Furious flicks. Best of all, the wildly popular R Burger food truck will be onsite, serving up their freshly ground burgers.

Paradise Acres

Take the whole crew out to Fayetteville Motor Speedway on Saturday for Faith & Family Night with the WCLN-FM Christian 107.3 radio station. The speedway’s 49th season of championship battles has just kicked off, and this exciting night of racing action will be featuring late models, modifieds, super streets, and more.

Spend a perfect Sunday afternoon at the first Cruise-In to Paradise, at Paradise Acres in the Town of Hope Mills. This family-oriented event will be welcoming all makes and models of everything from tractors to trucks, and the kids will especially enjoy the “train” ride, inflatables, and playground. Plan on feeding everyone supper, as well, with Paradise Acres’ mouth-watering Southern fried chicken and Eastern Carolina-style BBQ.

Fascinate-U Children’s Museum

Make a point to visit the Fascinate-U Children’s Museum for Come See the Trains! on Saturday afternoon. Cape Fear Model Railroaders, a chapter of the National Railway Historical Society, showcases their elaborate model train exhibit on the third floor of the museum, and it is a must-see for railfans of all ages. (This event happens to coincide with the museum’s Meet & Greet with the Easter Bunny).

Head to Cumberland County’s Headquarters Library with the kids for an art exhibit on some famous airmen, You Can Fly: The Tuskegee Airmen, open all weekend to the public. The library is educating their youngest visitors on the military’s first African-American pilots with scratch-board illustrations from the children’s book.

The rest of this weekend’s many hometown happenings may be found on the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (FACVB) Calendar of Events. Also, be sure to check out this week’s featured blog, “Planes, Trains & Automobiles,” to learn about several area museums that are home to some impressive modes of transportation. is owned by the
