America’s Hometown Happenings: March 17 – 19

St. Patrick's Day Fayetteville NC

Lake Rim Park

St. Patrick’s Day is the one day of the year when everyone claims to have a bit of Irish blood in their family lineage. In all reality, most of us just enjoy the excuse to wear green, eat corned beef and cabbage, and join in the shenanigans. Fayetteville is playing host to many such St. Patrick’s Day shenanigans, so we are sharing a few festive options to consider as you make your plans for this Friday, March 17th.

A Walk in the Park
Dress up in green attire and head out to Lake Rim Park for a St. Patrick’s Day Story Walk. Adventurers will be learning the folklore and history behind this holiday, as well as searching the wooded trail for hidden “treasures.” Although this free event is open to all ages, it’s perfect for the kiddies (just call to register beforehand).

A Downtown Celebration
Join in the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration revelry taking place throughout the day in downtown Fayetteville. Many featured businesses will be offering food and drink specials, giveaways, and special activities. May we offer a couple suggestions? Take part in an Xscape Factor experience (green shirt = discount), watch the Irish Dancers at Diane’s Vintage Market, or get some green ink at Fayetteville Ink & Art Gallery.

A Hockey Game
Watch the battle on ice go down with the Fayetteville FireAntz versus Knoxville Ice Bears game at the Crown Coliseum. It is “Shamrocks and Skates Night,” and the perfect time to catch one of the last home games of the FireAntz season. For some pre-game grub, take the crew to the Coliseum’s ESPN Radio Upper Deck and look no further than the Southern Fried Fish & Chips or Pub Burger.

A Pub Run
Meet up with fellow runners at Fleet Feet Sports Runners Spot for their St. Patrick’s Day Pub Run. This free 5K will include a costume competition (think kilts and paint) and a raffle of some cool running gear. Rumor has it that the route will be taking runners to a couple of favorite watering holes—possibly Latitude 35 Bar & Grill and Huske Hardware?

A Dueling Piano Show
End the day’s festivities at the St. Paddy’s Day Party with Dueling Pianos, hosted by Charley’s Pub in downtown Fayetteville. The 2 Bald Guys Dueling Piano Show is well known around here for their entertaining, interactive, and hilarious performances. Of course, the Irish whiskey and beer will be flowing, and we have heard that some St. Paddy’s shenanigans are planned.

A host of other events are taking place throughout the weekend around Cumberland County, and you may find information about those happenings on the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Calendar of Events. Fayetteville is also getting ready for its biggest festival of the year, at the end of April. Read more about that on this week’s featured blog, “Fayetteville Dogwood Festival ABC’s.”
